D&D 5E and Newer / Re: 5E verses 5.5
Last post by Rod Izegrim - Today at 23 AM
I can confirm that the two editions are easily compatible without any conversion. In my current group, two of us are playing 2024 versions of A Fighter and Ranger, respectively, while the rest of the game is 2014. With weapon mastery, while one more widget to keep track of, really bumps up the effectiveness of martial characters. The other big differences are with some individual spells.

For example, spiritual weapon is now concentration in 2024 (which is good, because it was OP before). And witch bolt, which I thought was underpowered as a 1st level spell, now has the initial damage go from 1d12 to 2d12, so it's now a viable choice.

The books themselves are much better.  Better art and better layout.

Another major change is backgrounds.  In 2024, you don't get stat boosts from races. Those come from the background you choose. You also get a free pre-defined feat based on background.  For example, if you choose the Criminal background, you get the alert feat.

B/X. I prefer B/X to BECMI. It's shorter (faster to read), and I like the art and presentation better. Don't get me wrong, I like Elmore, but I like Willingham and Otis much better.

Board Games / Re: What's your favorite board...
Last post by NOD the Goblin - Nov 44 23 2024 AM
A few other favorites for me.

AXIS AND ALLIES:
Reason I like this game is that I was a massive RISK player, and when A&A came out it was like RISK on steroids. I prefer the more technical play of the game and like a game that solidly lands at 203 hours of play, and A&I delivers that.

DARK TOWER
Dark Tower is another one I really enjoyed and has a lot of nostalgia for me. Being the first "electronic" board game I ever had exposure to.

D&D 5E and Newer / 5E verses 5.5

So the new D&D version is slowly getting out, and on other social media platforms there are mixed reviews. For those who have played these versions, what are the differences and what makes them especially different?

D&D BECMI by Mentzer has been a starting point for a lot of older gamers, however also other versions such as BX and Holmes was also a solid starting point. So the question becomes this?

What version did you start, which version did you prefer and why?

The problem with bringing in a theme is that it is universal, I will look over the themes you mentioned and see what can be done.

Wow. That's a very, creative idea using the transparencies. It allows versatility in swapping out different parts, and it also gives the player a nice visual of the completed mech.

Member Feedback / More Themes

@NOD the Goblin can we get more themes? I like being able to tweak the look of forums when I read them. I looked through some of the custom themes on the Simple Machines site. So far I'm a fan of Elementary, GamingX, and Chakra.
